How To Cook Your Pasta Perfectly To Al Dente 5 Tips

By Cooking with Lillian

The best way to cook pasta is to cook it to al dente, as what the Italians call it. Al Dente means that the pasta still has a nice bite into it; not soggy or not slimy. It is cooked just right and gives justice to the sweet, sour, and spicy taste of whatever sauce you put on top.

Cooking the perfect pasta is easy, but you will have to take extra care when cooking it, in order to achieve the best results. To give you some tips on how to cook Al dente, please see the following steps I have for you below.

  1. Ideally, for every pound of water, you have to have at least 6 quarts of water. Check the amount of pasta in the packaging to make sure that you know how much pasta you are cooking.
  2. Bring the water to a boil.
  3. When the water is already boiling, add your pasta into it.
  4. Sometimes, you will have to check the packaging of your pasta for the cooking time. Some pasta variants cook faster than the other, especially when you are looking at pre-packed ones. Fresh pasta cooks a bit quicker, which normally takes 3 to 5 minutes only. Other than that, you will have to check the packaging. Follow what is indicated in the packaging to make sure that you are cooking your pasta perfectly.
  5. Remove your pasta from the boiling water. Strain and drain the excess water, to prevent your pasta from being soggy. Let it sit for at least 5 minutes.

These are the steps that you have to do, in order to cook your pasta perfectly. Remember, do not put anything inside the boiling water, which can cause your pasta to cook unevenly. Some people cook pasta with oil in boiling water, and they do this to prevent it from sticking together. Honestly, the best way to prevent pasta from sticking together is to constantly stir it, while it is boiling. Adding oil will not really help, as the oil will only go on top of the boiling water, and not in between the noodles.

You can add a bit of salt or any spice into the boiling water though if you want to infuse flavor to your cooked pasta. But make sure to not overdo this, because it will just overpower the flavor of your sauce, which is not very good when you have light sauces.

You can cook your pasta in a big batch, but you have to make sure that it will be consumed at once. Re-cooking your pasta is not going to make it Al Dente anymore, since your pasta will be overcooked already. Cook the right amount of pasta only, to make sure that you and your family or guests will enjoy a nice bite into your pasta dish.

These are the different ways that you can do, in order to cook pasta perfectly.
